Anytime Induction for Microsoft Office Specialist courses

Welcome to a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) course offered by the Digital Skills team at Cardiff Met. This Anytime Induction process will get you started with course. It is essential that you complete it, as it explains the structure of the course, the resources available and gives details about the MOS qualification.

There are five parts to the induction, it should take about 25 minutes to complete.

  1. Microsoft Office Specialist – qualification explained. You will learn why the MOS qualification is valuable to you.
  2. Course structure & resources. The general structure of a MOS course is explained and key resources are introduced.
  3. CMet Lessons. The e-lessons, practice projects and other learning resources are explored.
  4. Course specific details. This important section covers specific details about each MOS course.
  5. Induction form. Complete this form to finish the induction process. Providing you complete the form successfully, you will be enrolled onto the course on the start date listed (on MetHub) for your anytime induction.


You will need Microsoft Office to complete a MOS course. This is available for free to staff and students, see the Download Office 365 guide for details.

It is important you read the course specific details for the course(s) you are enrolled on.

 

MOS Excel - course specific details

  • The MOS Excel course is comprised of 9 CMet Lessons, these form the core of the course.
  • Each CMet Lesson contains an e-lesson, practice projects and a Final project.
  • Final Projects:

    Summer 2021: MOS courses are running as flexible learning courses over the summer period. Given this, you should still complete the final projects but you will not be able to submit them or get feedback on them. Answer videos are available for you to compare your project to the model answer.

  • Key Concept sessions:
    • In addition to CMet Lessons there are 3 optional Key Concept sessions – teaching sessions held over Microsoft Teams – that complement the CMet Lessons. These Key Concept sessions explore some of the major topics in the CMet Lessons through worked examples and exercises.
    • Summer 2021: Key concept sessions will not be running over the summer. Recordings are available. These sessions are optional and everything is covered in the e-lessons.

    • The Key Concept sessions are optional. They do not introduce any new material, they merely explore the material from the CMet Lessons in a different way. So if you want more examples of the concepts and techniques from the CMet Lessons, attend a Key Concept session.
    • The Key Concept sessions will be recorded and made available to the cohort.
  • MOS exam sessions will be scheduled for the weeks beginning 14/06/21 and 21/06/21 along with some more exam sessions in early September. They will be remote "Exams from Home" exam sessions, you can take them from your home. You must be a current student or member of staff to take the exam.

MOS PowerPoint - course specific details

  • The MOS PowerPoint course is comprised of 6 CMet Lessons, these form the core of the course.
  • Each CMet Lesson contains an e-lesson, practice projects and a Final project.

  • Final Projects: there are no Final Projects for the MOS Outlook course.

5. Induction form

Complete the induction form to finish the induction. If prompted, sign-in with your Cardiff Met Office 365 account. For students this is st[student number]@outlook.cardiffmet.ac.uk for staff sm[staff number]@cardiffmet.ac.uk

You must score 4 or more points on the induction form to complete the induction.

Those who successfully complete the induction will be enrolled onto the Moodle module on the date of the Anytime Induction listed on the training schedule. You will be notified by email when you have been enrolled on the module.
